The Scottish Parliament has confirmed that Annie Lennox will return to Holyrood in two supporting roles, as a special envoy and a key speaker in this years’ Festival of Politics.

As part of Annie’s ongoing campaign to tackle HIV/AIDS issues across Africa, her new role as a special envoy to the Scottish Branch of the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) will be to report back on these issues to MSPs on a regular basis with a particular focus on Malawi.

Annie will also take centre stage at this years’ Festival of Politics to provide an update on developments in her SING Campaign, fighting HIV/AIDS in South Africa and highlight the positive impact SING continues to have on people living with HIV.

“We are very pleased to announce Annie’s new role as a special envoy for CPA Scotland Branch and to welcome her back to the Scottish Parliament’s Festival of Politics as she discusses her SING Campaign – one year on,” Presiding Officer Alex Fergusson MSP said. "We were delighted last year when Annie expressed a strong interest in taking on a role with the Scottish Parliament. We are pleased that this has now been achieved under the auspices of the CPA Scotland Branch.

“In 2009 Annie shared her personal experience of witnessing the effects of HIV/AIDS in Africa and the action we can all take in fighting the pandemic. This year we look forward to an update from Annie on the positive developments the SING Campaign continues to have on people living with HIV.”

Annie is excited about returning to the event.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be officially made a special envoy for CPA Scotland Branch with regard to the issue of HIV AIDS,” she said. “In this way I hope to contribute to the long standing Scottish tradition of standing up for human rights and justice, with special regard to women and children in the developing world. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who made this possible.”

Annie Lennox and the SING Campaign – One Year On is organized in association with the General Teaching Council (GTC) for Scotland, as part of their annual lecture program. Annie will give the General Teaching Council for Scotland Annual Lecture at this years’ Festival of Politics.
