Madonna has reportedly made a donation to victims of Monday’s tragic earthquake in Italy.

According to People.com, the pop princess has made a “substantial donation” to victims, following a plea for help from the mayor of a small hamlet called Pacentro. Madonna’s grandparents lived in the village until 1919.

“I am happy to lend a helping hand to the town that my ancestors are from,” she said. “My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones or their homes.”

Over 200 people are feared dead after the 6.3 magnitude quake hit the country at 3:32am on Monday.

The amount of Madonna’s donation is not yet known for certain, but is rumored to be in the region of $500,000.
