UK television presenter Konnie Huq has served as a celebrity ambassador for the British Red Cross, and travelled to Uganda in support of Comic Relief.
Huq travelled to Afghanistan in 2008 to help raise awareness for the women in the remote province of Badakhshan, who suffer among the highest maternal mortality rates in the world. Her trip was part of a charity mission in support of Aghanaid.
The BBC filmed Konnie’s journey, during which she spoke to women in the area, and appealed to viewers in the UK to donate money to train local midwives.
While there, Huq also spoke to a 14 year old girl who, with the support of the Afghanaid Child Rights project, had convinced her parents not to force her into marriage.
