National AfterSchool Association spokesman Dwayne Johnson – better known as “The Rock” – channels his devotion to helping children through the Dwayne Johnson Rock Foundation. In its first year, the foundation strove to assist in recovery and create hope in the lives of children hospitalized for various medical conditions. Since then, it has expanded its mission to include education and child obesity prevention programs.
Johnson also takes time to help out as one of the directors of The Beacon Experience, which actively encourages children to continue their schooling beyond the high school years through special courses, mentoring and increased parental involvement.
Aside from being heavily involved in these two organizations, Johnson supports the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and helped to organize a gala for the Rush Philanthropic Arts Foundation, which provides funding for non-profit organizations that give disadvantaged urban youths exposure and access to the arts.
He has also supported charities working towards an end to Parkinson’s Disease and AIDS.
Dwayne and wife Dany Garcia Johnson gave $2m in 2006 to University of Miami to name its new Alumni Center living room.
