Pete Townshend, guitarist for The Who, was the first major rock musician to donate his services to Amnesty International, and subsequently inspired many other artists to follow.
He is a supporter of several children’s charities, and an advocate for drug rehabilitation.
In February 1985 Pete Townshend performed two charity shows at London’s Brixton Academy. The sold out shows benefitted the ‘Double O’ charity, which was formed by The Who in the 1970s. The band, performing under the banner ‘Deep End,’ featured Pink Floyd guitarist David Gilmour and saw the band performing an eclectic range of songs.
