The Orthopaedic Foundation for Active Lifestyles (OFALS) eighth annual gala will take place on Tuesday, November 13, 2012 at The Harvard Club of New York City.

The gala will honor tennis legend, Billie Jean King who will receive the ‘Spirit of Active Lifestyle’ Award. Television icon Regis Philbin will be presenting the award to Billie Jean King. Also honored will be nationally renowned orthopaedic surgeon Richard Steadman MD who will receive the ‘Excellence in Sports Medicine’ Award. . Attending the Gala once again, is former New York City Mayor David Dinkins.

Bill Cosby will perform.

The bone healthy menu will be created by award winning Celebrity Chef’s Jean-Louis Gerin from Jean-Louis Restaurant in Greenwich and Celebrity Chef’s Mark Ladner from Del Posto Restaurant. Jean-Louis Gerin is a Food Network “Chopped” Champion. Mark Ladner, along with famed chef Mario Batali, wrote an Italian cook book entitled Molto Gusto.

Sponsors of the Eighth Annual OFALS Gala so far include: Equinox, Harney Teas, Moffly Media, Mercy (Hangover Prevention Beverage), Sparkling Ice – Talking Rain, UTZ Chips.

The evening will begin with a champagne and hors d’oeuvres reception at 6:00 p.m. followed by dinner which will once again feature a bone-healthy menu.

Proceeds from the evening will benefit the Orthopaedic Foundation for Active Lifestyles, developed by Kevin Plancher, MD, a not-for-profit foundation whose principal mission is to promote, support, develop and encourage research and education concerning orthopaedic injuries and musculoskeletal diseases. Support will fund cutting edge research on new and minimally invasive ways to treat pain and keep individuals active.

Proceeds will also provide hands on “Doctor for a Day” educational labs for middle school and high school students in the New York and Connecticut region. The theme of this year’s gala is, “Educating our Kids for a Pain Free Tomorrow.”
