After 21 amazing years of work for UNICEF, Sir Roger Moore was presented with the first-ever UNICEF UK Lifetime Achievement Award at a ceremony on 1 November at London’s Ivy restaurant.
“I might be best known for playing James Bond, but my role as Goodwill Ambassador for UNICEF is the one I am most passionate about,” Sir Roger said, as he was presented the award by UNICEF UK Vice-President Marc Boland.
Sir Roger was introduced to UNICEF by his friend and fellow Goodwill Ambassador Audrey Hepburn. Since the 1990s, he has visited many UNICEF projects to draw attention to the plight of vulnerable children around the world.
“I’ve been moved by the incredible work the organisation does to save millions of children’s lives,” Sir Roger said. “I am absolutely honoured and would like to thank UNICEF for this truly humbling award.”
The first award of its kind, the UNICEF UK Lifetime Achievement Award will be named the Roger Moore Lifetime Achievement Award from now on, in celebration of Sir Roger’s tireless work for UNICEF, both as a generous fundraiser and a global advocate for children’s rights.
David Bull, UNICEF UK’s Executive Director said: “UNICEF is extremely proud to have Sir Roger Moore’s unswerving support. He’s moved mountains for us over the last 20 years. We want to thank him from the bottom of our hearts.”
A recent charity auction of James Bond memorabilia raised £723,600 for UNICEF’s work for children.
