The UCLA Department of Neurosurgery will be holding their annual fundraiser “The Visionary Ball” on Thursday, October 25th at the Beverly Wilshire Hotel.
A VIP cocktail reception will start at 6:00pm and dinner, awards and entertainment at 7:00pm. Maria Menounos, host of “Extra,” will emcee and Robin Thicke will headline the entertainment.
The event will be hosted by Dr. Neil Martin, Chairman and W. Eugene Stern Professor of the UCLA Department of Neurosurgery, with co-chairs Edie Baskin Bronson, three-time Emmy Award nominee and former Saturday Night Live photographer; Beth Friedman, UCLA Neurosurgery Advisory Board Member and community advocate; and Tony Pritzker, managing partner of the Pritzker Group and philanthropist.
This year’s honorees include PayPal founder Elon Musk, who will be receiving the Visionary Award, and comedian/talk show host Chelsea Handler who will be receiving the Rodney Respect Award.
Other honorees include Dr. Barbara Natterson-Horowitz, Director of Imaging for the UCLA Cardiac Arrhythmia Center and Professor of Medicine at the David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA; Ted Gagliano, President of Feature Post Production at 20th Century Fox; and Kate Berg, founder of the fashion sales showroom Showroom Sixfifteen.
The Rodney Respect Award, presented by the comedy legend’s widow, Joan Dangerfield, honors those who have achieved ultimate success in the field of entertainment. Recognizing those who have truly distinguished themselves as masters in entertainment, the Respect Award celebrates the joy each honoree brings to the community and the UCLA Neurosurgery department’s patients. Rodney Dangerfield successfully underwent rare and technically difficult brain bypass surgery in April 2003 at UCLA Medical Center to improve brain blood flow impaired by a blockage in his right carotid artery.
