A stellar line-up of Oxfam supporters will be taking to the stage at the Oxford Playhouse on Sunday 14th October for Eight Stories High, an exclusive evening of storytelling, performance, big ideas and surprises.
Celebrating Oxfam’s 70th anniversary, the unique, star-studded event promises a moving evening filled with tales of courage, passion, innovation and perspiration.
Each of the special guests, including actress and Oxfam Global Ambassador Kristin Davis and Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, will share a remarkable story, providing a unique insight into what leaders in business, entertainment and the arts feel about the world we live in. Joining these stars on stage will be journalists John Simpson CBE and Ian Hislop, Harry Potter actress Bonnie Wright, acclaimed author Victoria Hislop, Oxfordshire’s favourite top chef Raymond Blanc and Innocent Drinks founder Richard Reed, who is fronting the new BBC3 series Be Your Own Boss.
Uplifting performances will include Tabu Flo, an afro urban dance company from Uganda, whose aim is to inspire, create and exchange creativity. More surprise special guests are expected to make an appearance. The evening will also include exclusive video contributions by Oxfam Global Ambassadors Colin Firth, Livia Firth and Angélique Kidjo.
Kristin Davis said: “I am deeply proud to be involved in Eight Stories High – there are so many untold and fantastic stories that touch Oxfam’s world, which should be shared. This event is a very special 70th anniversary celebration and I am honoured to be involved as a Global Ambassador for Oxfam.”
Richard Reed adds: “As someone who runs a business, I’ve been really bowled over by my experiences with Oxfam, and I’m sure everyone attending Eight Stories High will be too. I’ve spent time with communities who have so little, but are achieving so much and witnessed real-life stories that are truly transformational. I’m looking forward to sharing what all this means to me at Eight Stories High.”
The inaugural Eight Stories High is being held at the Oxford Playhouse to reflect Oxfam’s beginnings in Oxford, where a small group of people got together to help people starving in Greece during World War Two. 70 years later, Oxfam has grown into a global movement for change, working in more than 90 countries worldwide to overcome poverty. Tapping into a wealth of inspiring stories and people, Eight Stories High’s celebrity cast is set to deliver a thought-provoking, highly entertaining evening.
