The Global Poverty Project (GPP) has teamed up with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF to offer the opportunity for one lucky winner plus a guest to meet UNICEF Ambassador Selena Gomez at GPP’s Global Festival on September 29 in Central Park.

Gomez will be participating in the Global Festival, a multi-faceted event that celebrates achievements made towards eliminating extreme poverty. By signing the UNICEF petition on www.globalcitizen.org that demonstrates support for UNICEF’s efforts to bring about a day when zero children die of preventable causes, festival attendees will be entered into the sweepstakes to meet and have their photo taken with Gomez. UNICEF addresses the root causes of extreme poverty, working for the survival and development of children around the world.

“Every day, 21,000 children die from causes we can prevent,” said UNICEF Ambassador Selena Gomez. “I stand with UNICEF in believing that number should be zero. I am excited to participate in the days’ activities and hope that people will take action to help save kids’ lives.”

Recording artist, actress, and designer Selena Gomez was appointed UNICEF Ambassador in September 2009. Since then, Gomez has played an active role in advocating for the world’s most vulnerable children by participating in numerous campaigns, events, and initiatives on behalf of the U.S. Fund for UNICEF. Most recently, Gomez supported UNICEF’s emergency campaign to save lives in the Sahel region of West and Central Africa where there is currently a nutrition crisis.

“We are thrilled that the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and Selena Gomez are participating in the Global Festival. It is the young leaders, like Selena, who truly have the ability to motivate millions of people to take action and eradicate poverty within our generation,” said Hugh Evans, CEO The Global Poverty Project.

The winner of the sweepstakes will be chosen at random from among those with tickets to the Global Festival who sign the petition from September 5-18. The winner will receive two complimentary passes for the meet-and-greet with Gomez. To learn more about the rules and regulations of the sweepstakes or to enter, visit the UNICEF petition.

Global Festival, which will feature a cross-section of content and actions about international health and development issues, will culminate with a free ticketed concert featuring headliners Neil Young with Crazy Horse, Foo Fighters and The Black Keys, supported by Band of Horses and K'naan. The event has been timed to create awareness around the UN General Assembly in New York, when world leaders will convene to debate the Millennium Development Goals and make commitments to end extreme poverty.
