Last week, some of Hollywood’s most outspoken comics teamed up for a benefit for the most outspoken animal rights group, PETA.

“Before PETA was around, you know, you could f-ck with animals any way, anybody, anytime, anywhere, and now you can’t,” headliner Bill Maher said during his set Wednesday night. “That’s a pretty big change in the world. That’s a big achievement. … Animals will not be ignored. They’re the Glenn Close of species.”

Proceeds from the benefit—including purchases from a special “veganized” version of The Comedy Store’s menu—will go toward PETA’s work to stop animal abuse.
