Music icon Taylor Swift has been awarded the 2012 Honorary Star of Compassion Award by Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services, a Tennessee nonprofit group dedicated to disaster relief and education.
“Taylor Swift has inspired the small community of Northwest Tennessee with her uplifting words and music of encouragement and has become a positive role model for the young and old alike here. It is with great honor and appreciation that we present this one of a kind, jeweled award to such an outstanding individual on behalf of our organization,” said Rob Adcock, Director of Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services during a presentation at Big Machine Label Group in Nashville, TN.
Northwest Tennessee Disaster Services, a humanitarian organization led by volunteers, provides relief to victims of disaster and helps people prevent, prepare for, and respond to emergencies.
Taylor Swift currently holds the Billboard all-genre records for most first-week downloads by a female artist, for the longest charting album of this century and for most Top 20 debuts in a calendar year, as well as the Billboard record for the largest overall airplay audience for a country-based act. Taylor’s 15-month, 107-date FEARLESS 2009 / 2010 Tour sold out arenas and stadiums in 88 cities in five countries spanning four continents.
