On Sunday, May 20th the greatest names in sports and entertainment will come together to celebrate the 27th anniversary of Sports Spectacular to benefit the world-renowned Medical Genetics Institute at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza in Los Angeles.
This year’s event will honor soccer superstar David Beckham of the LA Galaxy and the Super Bowl Champion New York Giants. Additional honorees will be announced in the coming weeks.
Snoop Dogg, John Salley, Jim Hill and Michael Strahan will host the annual gala dinner and silent auction which honors the country’s top sports stars in an effort to combat genetic birth defects. More than 1,800 prominent sports figures, entertainers, and business, civic and community leaders will be on hand to support and raise funds for children suffering from genetic birth defects.
Sports Spectacular was established in 1986 in response to the promise of genetic research leading to the understanding of numerous genetic diseases found in children as well as adults. Since that time, Sports Spectacular has raised more than $21 million to benefit the life-saving work of the Cedars-Sinai Medical Genetics Institute. The Institute’s focus is to provide expert consultation and cutting edge research to find new and improved methods of diagnosis, prevention and treatment for all types of genetic disorders, including mental retardation, dwarfism, cystic fibrosis, deafness and malformation syndromes, as well as common diseases of adulthood, such as heart disease, hypertension and diabetes. The event also benefits the Sports Spectacular Fellowship Endowment, which supports the training of five research Fellows in various medical fields at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
Sports Spectacular has also kicked off their “Be the Voice of the Red Carpet” contest offering the opportunity for one winner to attend the exclusive event as an official red carpet correspondent. To be considered, contestants must submit creative videos demonstrating why they should be this year’s Sports Spectacular correspondent. The winner will receive two roundtrip tickets to Los Angeles, two tickets to Sports Spectacular and two nights stay at the Hyatt Regency Century Plaza, all in addition to the opportunity to interview the biggest names in sports and entertainment. The contest will run until May 11 and can be entered by visiting facebook.com/SportsSpectacular.
The evening is generously sponsored by American Airlines, ARES, Cedars-Sinai Board of Governors, Gelson’s and Sprint.
