Forgotten Harvest and Funny Or Die have announced that Seth Meyers, “Weekend Update” anchor and head writer of NBC’s Saturday Night Live, will headline the 20th Annual Comedy Night in Detroit on April 27, 2012.

Comedy Night is an annual charity event that supports Forgotten Harvest’s mission of eliminating hunger by eliminating food waste.

The 20th Annual Comedy Night will take place at Orchestra Hall in Detroit. Tickets are on sale now through Forgotten Harvest at www.forgottenharvest.org, through the Orchestra Hall box office and at www.DSO.org. Ticket prices start at $25.

Comedy Night, which began in 1992 with the support of television and film star and local native Tim Allen and Detroit-area comedy impresario Mark Ridley, has become Metro Detroit’s premier annual comedy event, bringing in well-known stars such as Allen, Meyers, The Smothers Brothers, Richard Jeni, Kevin Pollack, Kevin Meaney, Louie Anderson, David Coulier and Kathleen Madigan.

In addition to being the 20th anniversary of the first Comedy Night, Forgotten Harvest welcomes a new partner and sponsor: Funny Or Die, one of the web’s top destinations for comedy and an organization that has already thrown its support behind Forgotten Harvest through “Robocharity for Forgotten Harvest.” Funny Or Die created and published a video appeal in 2011 featuring Peter Weller, star of the movie " Robocop," urging metro Detroiters to make donations to Forgotten Harvest. The “Robocharity for Forgotten Harvest” movement was generated by Garry Whitta, screenwriter for the movie “Book of Eli”, Ron Marz, CBR columnist and Ryan Meray, a local business owner around the famous initiative to have a statue of RoboCop dedicated in Detroit. Southeastern Michigan natives Mike and Christopher Farah of Funny Or Die were instrumental in securing Seth Meyers for Comedy Night 2012, and are excited about the opportunity to help Forgotten Harvest fight hunger in Metro Detroit.

“This is a chance for us to help comedy make a difference in our home state, and we’re happy to be working with an organization like Forgotten Harvest,” said Mike Farah, President of Production at Funny Or Die. “There’s a great tradition to Comedy Night and we’re looking forward to helping take it even further into the future to fight hunger in Metro Detroit.”

Current Comedy Night sponsors include; Quicken Loans, Pepsi, PVS Chemicals, Comerica Bank, Strategic Staffing Solutions, Grant Thornton, Huntington Bank and JPMorgan Chase . Corporate sponsorship packages remain available for purchase. Seth Meyers is in his 11th season as a cast member of Saturday Night Live, and his sixth season as both head writer and “Weekend Update” anchor. As the sole “Weekend Update” anchor, Meyers charms audiences as he lampoons top news stories and entertains fan favorite guests including the outlandish and über trendy correspondent “Stefon” as well as the perpetually ill- prepared singing duo “Garth and Kat.” Before focusing his attention solely on “Update,” Meyers was a regular player in sketches, performing numerous characters. Recently, Meyers returned to host the 2011 ESPY Awards on ESPN and headlined the 2011 White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner to rave reviews.
