Actress Jamie Lee Curtis will be honored at this year’s Red Cross Los Angeles Region Red Tie Affair, which will take place April 21, at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel in Santa Monica.

The event recognizes the humanitarian spirit of extraordinary individuals who have shown courage and unselfish character. Actor Denis Leary and JR Martinez, the Iraq war veteran who won last season’s TV show “Dancing with the Stars,” will also be honored at the event.

Curtis, a Red Cross Celebrity Cabinet member, will receive the coveted Crystal Cross Humanitarian Award from national Red Cross President and CEO Gail McGovern. The versatile actress, best-selling children’s book author and humanitarian has been a long-time active Red Cross supporter. An advocate of personal disaster preparedness, she has served as a spokesperson for several national Red Cross preparedness public service campaigns. In addition, she has promoted the Red Cross during several recent international disasters, encouraging Americans to donate time, blood and money following the Haiti earthquake, as well as last year’s Japan earthquake and tsunami. She leads by example by doing all three.

Denis Leary, an actor-writer-director-comedian, best known for his starring role in the “Rescue Me” series (which he co-created), will receive the Spirit of Service Award.

J.R. Martinez, actor and motivational speaker, who survived burns over 40 percent of his body while serving in Iraq, will be presented with the Spirit of Inspiration Award.

In addition, Dr. Timothy Miller, the leader of Operation Mend, will be honored with the Spirit of Volunteerism Award.

Christine Devine, an Emmy winning news anchor for KTTV’s Fox 11 News, will emcee the event, which includes a gourmet dinner by celebrity chef Nick Stellino. The event also includes a VIP reception, a casino, live music, and silent and live auction items, including unique items.
