Sheila E. is known for her fantastic music, stunning looks and heart of gold. LookToTheStars.org’s Misty Schwartz recently spoke to the icon – who founded the Elevate Hope Foundation to provide abused and abandoned children an alternative method of therapy through music and the arts – about her charity work with Global Green.
What is the criteria for choosing the charities that you so strongly support?
I only choose charities that I believe in. [Global Green] is something that I would love to get involved in because of helping New Orleans build its way back.
How or why did you choose to get involved with Global Green?
I did not know much about it until I found out Global Green were spearheading rebuilding New Orleans. That is close and dear to my heart, because I have family who still live there and their homes were destroyed.
What kind of impact do you plan to make by helping Global Green this year?
I will start by finding out more ways in how I can help. I am very interested in helping with Green Schools. They have helped schools save thousands of dollars, and what they save can also help with bringing back some of the programs needed for the kids.
And how important do you think it is for celebrities to get involved in charity?
I think its each individual’s decision to do so. I can’t say that they should if its something they don’t believe in. I myself think it is very important to give back. I feel it is my responsibility to help others. That is what God wants us to do. Bless each other.
And how important do you think it is for celebrities to get involved in Going Green?
Again, it’s up to the individual, but for me I love what Global Green is doing and I would love to be involved.
What plans do you have to make an impact and encourage others to “Go Green” this year?
I am not sure how to make an impact yet because I am just getting started. I know that Global Green has so many programs that can help all of us. I will probably focus on Green Schools first. Education, children are important to our future.
LookToTheStars.org thanks Sheila E. for her time.
