Following the recent birth of their first child in Namibia, Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are to give the proceeds from the sale of their exclusive baby photos to charity.

Bids for the photos were expected to be in the $5m-$7m range, and People magazine alone reportedly paid $4m. Hello! magazine paid separately for the British publication rights.

The money is expected to benefit children’s charities. In a statement, Jolie and Pitt said, “While we celebrate the joy of the birth of our daughter, we recognize that 2 million babies born every year in the developing world die on the first day of their lives.”

Immediately following the very private birth, the couple donated $300,000 out of their own pockets to two hospitals in Namibia.
