J/P Haitian Relief Organization (J/P HRO) is proud to unveil a special new PSA campaign entitled “Help Haiti Home” featuring actors and artists such as Sean Penn, Edward Norton, Miley Cyrus, Zooey Deschanel, Sarah Silverman, Rainn Wilson, LL Cool J, Eric Dane and Pras describing what home means to them, connecting the dots to the struggles many Haitian people still face.
The project was conceived by actress and advocate Soleil Moon Frye after an inspiring trip to Haiti and a visit to J/P HRO Petionville Camp. She produced the spots and co-directed them along with the help of her brother, renowned photographer Meeno Peluce,
The Help Haiti Home initiative was launched to raise funds that will help the 23,000 displaced Haitians currently living in the J/P HRO managed Petionville Camp return to the neighborhoods they lived in before the January 2010 earthquake.
“Visiting Haiti was an eye-opening experience to say the least,” said Soleil Moon Frye. “I am deeply inspired by the will of the Haitian people and their determination to rebuild their beautiful country. I am also heartened by the efforts of J/P HRO, an organization that has shown great leadership and resolve in the midst of this tragedy.”
“I am grateful to Soleil for single-handedly spearheading this PSA campaign and donating so much of her time to the people of Haiti,” said Sean Penn, Founder and CEO of J/P Haitian Relief Organization. “Home is more than just a physical place— it’s the foundation for families, communities and life. Our goal is to help support our neighbors so they can get home, and get home safe and sound.”
Each of the talent participating in the campaign has contributed an incentive to help support the campaign that fans can donate for a chance to win as part of its launch on Crowdrise. Some of the items donated to help raise funds include Rainn Wilson’s signed copy of a script from The OFFICE, a signed SHE AND HIM vinyl album from Zooey Deschanel, a one-of-a-kind polaroid from Miley Cyrus, a naughty voicemail from Sarah Silverman and a copy of William Saroyan’s play The Time of Your Life, autographed by Sean Penn. Crowdrise draws on the power of social media to help raise funds and support for a particular cause.
J/P HRO believes that home is far more than four walls and a roof. Home is good health, education, jobs, sustainable housing, community and dignity. On average, it costs about $1300 per person to make the journey from sleeping in the mud under a tarp in Petionville Camp to a home of their own. This figure covers the cost of rebuilding homes and revitalizing schools, clinics and other community services; as well the cost of rubble and debris removal. Millions of square feet of rubble still clog the streets of Port-au-Prince, a key obstacle to helping people home.
