Shirley Manson, lead singer of alt-rock band Garbage, is turning 45 on August 26, and her selfless birthday wish this year is to raise $4,500 for pediatric cancer research.

The Pablove Foundation is a charity near and dear to Manson’s heart as it was founded by two close friends who lost their young son to a rare form of childhood cancer (bilateral Wilms Tumor). The mission of The Pablove Foundation is to fund pediatric cancer research and advances in treatment, educate and empower cancer families, and improve the quality of life for children living with cancer through hospital play, music and arts programs.

The Pablove Foundation is named after Pablo Thrailkill Castelaz, the son of Jo Ann Thrailkill and Jeff Castelaz and the little brother of Grady Gallagher. Pablo was six years old when he lost his valiant yearlong battle with bilateral Wilms Tumor, a rare form of childhood cancer. Imbued with his spirit and inspired by his strength, Pablove is dedicated to the daily, global fight against childhood cancer and the suffering that comes in its wake.

“Please think of giving a donation in memory of Pablo and in honour of children with cancer all over the world who need our help,” says Shirley. "The foundation puts particular emphasis on funding research but also on providing fun creative things for children to do whilst they are stuck in the hospital. Anyone who has gone through a hospital stay with their child will understand how crucial this kind of distraction is to a child’s well being.

“Please consider giving to my Birthday Wish. We can tackle childhood cancer if we put our minds and resources together. I understand times are hard so if you can’t give now, maybe you will consider the foundation in the future when things get easier for you. If however you have a spare $4 dollars 50 cents, $45 or even a whopping $450 then do donate here and accept my sincere gratitude in return.”

Manson has set up a fundraising page via Causes.com and is encouraging her fans to donate by clicking here.
