Broadway Barks – an annual event in New York City hosted by the famed Mary Tyler Moore and Bernadette Peters, benefiting multiple animal shelters and adoption agencies throughout the 5 boroughs – took place on Saturday, July 9.
The always gracious Mary Tyler Moore introduced the massive audience to all the animals that were up for adoption. As always, everything went off without a hitch. At least 500 spectators and potential adopters stopped by to see the divas in Shubert Alley, in Manhattans Theatre district.
“Today we learned that pit-bulls are being utilized in New York State to teach children how to read,” Bernadette Peters revealed to the crowd. She then went on explaining one of the many benefits to adopting pets through shelters, “the animals are always trained by amazing professionals to do wonderful things like this!”
The crowd was pleasantly surprised to see Bebe Neuwirth take the stage to help out with the cat adoptions. “They call me the cat lady!” she joked as she grabbed the microphone, while holding a 8 week old kitten that she and her husband have been fostering for roughly a month now; also declaring cats “my favorite household pet”.
