Tennis star Rafael Nadal is urging fans to drink responsibly in his new role as the Bacardi Limited new Global Social Responsibility Ambassador for their Champions Drink Responsibly campaign

“I think it is a very important social campaign, especially for young people,” he said during a press conference at the Sony Ericsson Open in Miami last week. “The campaign is ‘Champions Drink Responsibly,’ but it is a social campaign about if you have to go out, have a plan how to come back home safely…If you go out, you don’t need to drink crazy. You can drink a few glasses of alcohol, or alcohol-free and drink water. I’m very happy to be the ambassador.”

And on Friday night, the Sony Ericsson Open, the WTA and ATP held a fundraiser for the victims of the Japan tsunami which attracted dozens of players- including Nadal, Kim Clijsters and Melanie Oudin- which raised a total of $303,000.
