What do you buy a future king and queen for their wedding?
The altruistic Prince William and bride-to-be Kate Middleton are looking to make it easy for their guests.
“When the invitations are issued, they will have some kind of instruction on how to make a donation to a charity chosen by the couple,” says a senior royal aide.
At least one organisation which will benefit is The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry.
In 2009 The Foundation of Prince William and Prince Harry was formed to help causes close to the brothers’ hearts. It focuses on helping young people in society, and raises awareness and support for servicemen and women.
“They are still considering whether it will be just the foundation, or whether they will also pick individual charities and projects which they are linked with,” says the official.
Some of the other organisations Prince William, 28, has supported in the past include the conservation charity Tusk Trust and Centrepoint, the homelessness foundation for which his late mother, Diana, Princess of Wales, was also a patron.
Miss Middleton has previously attended events in support of the seriously ill children’s charity, Starlight Children's Foundation.
Last month, Prince William and Miss Middleton met with former young cancer patients at a royal gala performance for the Teenage Cancer Trust.
