The most exciting talents in US tennis are teaming up to bring an intimate and entertaining charity tennis event to Southern California.
Held at the Manhattan Country Club in Manhattan Beach, CA on Sunday December 5th, the Inaugural Charity Challenge Hosted by John Isner and Sam Querrey is set to be an action packed, star studded merger of tennis meets Hollywood. Each year the event will rotate from coast to coast, beginning this year in Sam’s home state.
The format will consist of a Pro Am, three exhibition matches and an evening party that includes surprise musical guests and an auction – all held at the Club. Proceeds of the event will go to the players’ respective charities. Sam has chosen a cause close to his heart, the Boys' and Girls' Clubs of America, while John will donate his share to the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center, where his mother successfully won her battle against the disease.
The Pro Am event will see amateur participants test their skills against some of the greatest names in past, present and future tennis. Other players already confirmed include former world #1 and three time grand slam winner Lindsay Davenport, former world #1 and two time US Open champion Tracy Austin, the future stars of US tennis Sloane Stephens and Denis Kudla… and stand by for more great names to be announced.
The highlight of the day is sure to be the exhibition matches taking place on the stunning center court at the Manhattan Country Club. The matches will be a fan-friendly, close up showcase of the finest crop of American tennis, spanning three generations. Featuring celebrity umpires, mic’d players and live giveaways, the matches should be great from start to finish and thoroughly entertaining for everyone, from families to corporate clients. The first match will feature top juniors Sloane Stephens and Denis Kudla, followed by mixed doubles featuring Isner, Querrey, Davenport and Austin. The exhibitions will culminate in a Pro Set shoot out between the hosts, John Isner and Sam Querrey.
Sam Querrey, who grew up in SoCal is thrilled to be bringing their inaugural event to the west coast. “The field we have for the Pro Am and exhibitions are so exciting. Thanks to my fellow pro’s for their support. The event has all the makings of an awesome day and to benefit such good causes in my back yard is great and means a lot to me and my family. Being on tour so much, this kind of opportunity is rare and John and I want to make the most of it.”
Isner, who has long wanted to give something back to the hospital that treated his mother’s cancer said, “these are great causes and I hope we can count on the support of the Manhattan Beach and greater LA community.” The winner of the longest match in professional tennis history continued, “I haven’t played Sam since May, so I’m looking forward to a one set showdown! Although we’re great friends off the court, the on court battle can get intense. Mixed doubles with the ladies will be a lot of fun too.”
Pro Am spots cost $3,500 and include a VIP box for the exhibition matches plus a table at the evening dinner/auction/party for participants and their five guests. Only sixteen places are available in this once in a lifetime opportunity so interested players are encouraged to apply promptly.
Exhibition matches will begin at 3pm but ticket holders are also invited to come early and enjoy the Pro Am action, which begins at 10 am. Courtside tickets will go on sale at 9am on Monday 18th October and are priced at $100.
