Former Spice Girl Melanie Brown will take part in the 17th annual Keep LA Running Charity 5K Walk/Run and 10/20K Fun Bike Cruise, organized by the Emergency Relief Fund.
The event starts at 7:30am on Sunday, July 11, at Dockweiler Beach, Playa Del Rey, California. The event is open to everyone, from the serious runner to first time participants. All age groups are welcome. Awards to be given to the top three finishers in each division of the 5K/10K Run.
Joining Mel B will be Zola Budd, barefoot running sensation, 1984 Olympian, and former world record holder.
Activities during the day will include:
The Laker Girls will lead the aerobic warm up before the races; the ChivaGirls will greet participants, sign autographs and posters, take pictures; The Health and Fitness Expo; Raffle drawings for special prizes. Special beach barbeque, health screenings, emergency/disaster preparedness exhibits.
Funds raised through Keep LA Running benefit the following charities:
Kids With Cancer — The Pediatric Oncology Ward of Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, which treats children who have cancer;
Emergency Relief in LA County. The race has donated $50,000 to the Sylmar Fire victims, and to many LA county workers, and members of the community in need of Emergency Relief.
