Maria Bello will be a special guest presenter at the Women for a New Los Angeles Luncheon this Thursday, June 3.

The event will honor Ramona Ripston, a female hero who has boldly led the ACLU of Southern California for more than 35 years. Presenting the award will be actor/activist Maria Bello, a two-time Golden Globe Award nominee and star of the hit TV show drama ER and movies such as The Cooler and Thank You for Smoking.

The event is presented by LAANE, a leading advocacy organization dedicated to building a new economy for all. Combining dynamic research, innovative public policy and the organizing of broad alliances, LAANE promotes a new economic approach based on good jobs, thriving communities and a healthy environment.

LAANE does an amazing job empowering women to take control of their lives – and all of Los Angeles benefits,” said Jane Fonda.

The luncheon will feature a performance by acclaimed playwright/performer Jude Narita, whose one-woman shows document the experiences of Asian-American women. A video presentation, A Tale of Two Women: Crossing L.A.’s Grocery Divide, follows the lives of two women—one living in a food desert, the other in a neighborhood with full-service supermarkets—as they switch places. The video will highlight LAANE’s effort to pass a city-wide policy that will bring supermarkets to underserved communities in Los Angeles.

Kafi Blumenfield, dynamic president and CEO of the Liberty Hill Foundation, will co-emcee the event alongside charismatic former L.A. City Commissioner Julie Gutman, the new executive director of the Program for Torture Victims.

The event takes place at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel at 11:30 am. More information can be found here.
