Citizen Effect and The Charlize Theron African Outreach Project (CTAOP) are joining forces to build a foster home for orphaned, abandoned, and vulnerable children with Home from Home in Cloetesville, South Africa.

Charlize Theron's Africa Outreach Project is giving $50,000 for the home and Citizen Effect – a volunteer resource organization – is recruiting a team of high impact Citizen Philanthropists to match that donation.

The Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project and Home from Home have been working to empower and strengthen Africa’s children for years – now is your opportunity to join forces with them and help rebuild a South African community. All you need is the passion to bring your friends and family together to have a direct impact in the lives of these children.

“We are excited about this partnership because our goal is to help the children of Cloetesville live healthy, productive lives and we cannot go at this alone,” said Theron. “Citizen Effect allows us to get more passionate people involved and have a greater overall impact.”

From an early age, children in Cloetesville are forced to struggle with the tragic consequences of their community’s significant socioeconomic issues. Historically an underprivileged suburb, Cloetesville is now home to families that range from lower middle class to extremely impoverished. Currently, over a third of Cloetesville’s residents are unemployed and live in over-crowded informal housing. These living conditions have spurred the widespread occurrence of substance abuse, domestic violence, and HIV among Cloetesville’s families.

As a result, children from Cloetesville are often exposed to abuse and neglect. Sadly, these young people do not have access to any safe havens in their community. Instead, the suburb’s orphans and abused children often face the daunting option of being sent to distant institutions far from their homes. This limitation leads to many children either being left in difficult conditions or forced to leave their community and all they have ever known.

This project offers an alternative for Cloetesville’s children. It will fund the establishment and two-year operation of a small, community foster home in Cloetesville. By partnering with the Charlize Theron Africa Outreach Project and Home from Home, a non-profit that has successfully established 17 community foster homes throughout South Africa’s Western Cape, this project will provide 6 Cloetesville children with the opportunity to grow up in a loving home. In addition to benefiting from the stable environment and care of a loving foster mother, the children will have specialized medical care, education, therapy, and a shot at a normal childhood. Become the Citizen Philanthropist for this project and ensure that 6 children can overcome the trauma they have experienced and grow as inspiring examples for their community!
