More than 2,000 pairs of new shoes will be given away to the homeless on Skid Row at the Los Angeles Mission next week.
Soles4Souls is the title sponsor of NATIONAL BAREFOOT WEEK (June 1-7), which encourages people to temporarily go barefoot and donate their shoes. Events will be held in six cities with nearly 10,000 pairs of shoes to be distributed.
At the Los Angeles Mission, celebrities and other volunteers will distribute the new shoes as part of this effort. Shoes are donated by manufacturers, shoe stores and individuals. Hope4Homeless, a UCLA student group, will also distribute hygiene kits at the event.
CaCee Cobb (Price of Beauty on VH-1), Donald Faison (Scrubs) and other volunteers will be handing out the shoes.
Footwear is a critical need for the homeless in Los Angeles. Many homeless and poor have foot issues because of ill-fitting or worn shoes, and the inability to take care of their feet adequately. New, correct sized shoes will make a big difference to their overall health and well-being.
Soles4Souls focuses on providing free shoes to needy people around the world. The organization collects and distributes both new and “gently worn” shoes. Soles4Souls was started by professionals in the footwear industry who use industry resources to make a difference around the world.
The shoe distribution starts at 9am on June 1 at the LA Mission.
