Actresses Kristen Bell and Heather Graham are pairing up with TOMS Shoes to launch a campaign raising awareness for children in poverty-stricken areas who cannot afford shoes.

The stars have pledged to go without shoes on April 8th and encourage their fans to participate in the campaign. Heather Graham admits she is intimidated by the prospect of spending a whole day without her shoes on stating, “I’m pretty nervous about it because I live in New York City and it’s really, really gross here.” Kristen Bell urges people to “Join me on April 8th, take off your shoes, and spread the word.”

The Jonas Brothers and Hollywood actress Brittany Snow are also participating in this campaign and has stated that she is excited to leave her heels behind and go barefoot for the cause."

Walking is the primary means of transportation in developing countries, and many children have to walk miles to find medical help, food, and water. Millions of children cannot afford shoes and develop infectious soil-transmitted diseases on the soles of their feet. Many of these children can’t even attend school because shoes are required as part of the standard uniform.

By spending the day without shoes on you can experience firsthand the impact a pair of shoes can have on a child’s life. To join these celebrities in this campaign take the pledge here. Participants will be entered to win an all-expense paid trip on the upcoming TOMS Shoe Drop. Other ways you can participate include donating to TOMS Shoe Company or purchasing a pair of shoes. TOMS Shoe Company donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair of shoes purchased.

TOMS Shoe Company began in 2006, and has been working to distribute shoes to developing countries for many years. They have launched a number of movements supporting their cause which can be found at Toms.com.
