Carrie Underwood has teamed up with Pedigree pet food to raise awareness of the sixth annual Pedigree Adoption Drive.

The campaign encourages people to give homes to unloved dogs, and Underwood was on hand at the Bidawee Manhattan Animal Shelter in New York this week to help out.

“I have always been an animal lover,” she told CBS News. "I worked at a vet clinic when I was in college. When I was little I always brought animals into the house, and [nursed] sick animals back to health.

“The Pedigree Adoption Drive is all about finding animals homes, and making their stay comfortable while they are in shelters – because half the dogs in shelters never find a home. People can become a fan on Facebook, they can adopt dogs, they can donate money – we’ve raised 750,000 bowls of food for dogs and over half a million dollars.”
