Twilight author Stephenie Meyer has announced that she will release a new novella in the record-breaking vampire series in June, with some of the proceeds to go to charity.

The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner is a 192-page book featuring a newborn vampire introduced in Eclipse, and will chronicle her preparations to go into battle with the Cullens.

The book will be released on June 5, just before the movie version of Eclipse is released in theaters, and $1 from each copy will go to the Red Cross. The book will also be available online for free from June 7 to July 5, and the website www.breetanner.com will feature links to the American Red Cross website.

“One dollar of each book purchased in the US from the first printing will be donated to the American Red Cross for their relief efforts in Haiti and Chile and other parts of the world where people are in great need,” said Meyer. “We’re going to have an option online as well, so you can choose to make a donation if you want when you read the story online. I hope you will. I think that we can really help a lot of people with this.”
