Sean Penn is in Haiti with his relief organization, the J/P Haitian Relief Organization (JP HERO), and worked alongside therapists from ALYN Hospital, Israel’s premier rehabilitation center, to build a school tent in the organization’s new Haiti camp last week.
The organization took over the management of a camp of 40,000 earthquake survivors last week, and the actor is encouraging people around the world to write to their politicians and ask for more support for Haiti.
“There’s not nearly enough tents here for four to six people, families or more,” he said. “Not a healthy place for kids to be, and we’re going to have incredible problems when the rains come. So we’re doing all we can in that effort.”
JP HERO serves more than 2,000 meals to victims of the earthquake every day, and has treated over 55,000 patients since the quake killed 217,000 in January.
