Black Eyed Peas member apl.de.ap has performed a benefit concert in the Philippines to aid to victims of last month’s devastating Typhoon Ketsana.

The rapper, who is of Filipino ancestry, sent out an appeal to his fans after the typhoon killed 712 people and caused more than $20 million in damage.

“My heart is broken to see so many of my Filipino brothers and sisters hurt by this disaster,” he said. “We must all bond together and move forward to restore the city we hold dear. I’m asking the global community for their support and donations to assist the thousands of Filipinos affected by this tragedy.”

The star held the event at the Skydome in Manila.

“It’s important for me to go back to help out,” he said. “I donated money and also we bought a couple of boxes of food, canned goods and stuff like that. I just want to tell everybody that my heart goes out to you guys and I will try my best to help out.”
