A number of celebrities have used their personal blogs to talk about Earth Day, which was celebrated around the globe yesterday, April 22.

“Earth Day is an occasion where we all take the time to become more conscious of the way we treat our planet, but in reality, it’s something we should be aware of every single day,” wrote Mischa Barton on her blog. "It shouldn’t take a holiday to remind us of the damage we’ve done to the earth. Every single day should be spent doing little things to conserve energy and water. Walk places! Ride your bike! Not only is it good for you, but you won’t be emitting pollutants into the earth’s atmosphere. Obviously, conserving water is a big (and easy) thing to do. Don’t leave water running when you’re brushing your teeth, limit yourself to 5-10 minute showers, make sure your faucets are never dripping, etc. Another one of my favorite methods is to go to the grocery store with reusable shopping bags; it’s a great way to save paper and plastic.

“One difference between Earth Day and your average day is that today is one that should really be celebrated! Go outside and enjoy the beauty of nature!!! Have a picnic with your friends or family…trust me, there’s no better way to spend an afternoon.”

Kim Kardashian was another star who used her blog to raise awareness of the global event.

“Today is Earth Day!!” she wrote. “I think it’s really important to spread the word, since we live in a developed country, maybe you could even call it an overdeveloped country, but we shouldn’t be wasteful. Every little bit helps. It might sound silly, but the simplest things like reusing my shopping bags can make a difference, and sometimes it’s easy to forget that.”

Her sister, Khloe Kardashian, also blogged a message.

“Earth Day is a holiday that should be spent taking in all of the beauty nature has to offer us! Not a single one of you should be indoors right now! Well ok, plenty of us have jobs that keep us indoors, but you can still take advantage of the free time you do have — spend your lunch break on a blanket in the park! Breathe in the fresh air, and think of a few ways you can keep that fresh air we all take for granted clean!

“Here are some of my favorite methods: use as little water as possible when brushing teeth and showering, walk places instead of driving, carry a water bottle instead of going through numerous plastic water bottles a day, carry reusable shopping bags, every time you hit your local coffee shop bring your own travel mug, and recycle bitches!!!! LOL. Those are just a few ideas off the top of my head.”

Whitney Port also had something to say.

“Happy Earth day everyone! It’s SO nice to have a whole day to reflect on how beautiful our planet is! We often take advantage of our pleasant surroundings, but today you guys should all get outside and enjoy the fresh air and the sunshine. Walk your dog a few extra times, make some lemonade, roll down the windows, eat lunch outside: all of these activities will totally brighten your mood!

“It’s easy to forget the benefits of getting at LEAST 20 minutes of sunlight everyday. Vitamin D people! Don’t forget to be mindful of our resources too. Conserve and do your part to keep the air clean by taking small measures such as recycling, walking or riding your bike, and watching your water usage.”
