Starkey Hearing Foundation is honoring award-winning actor, comedian and philanthropist Billy Crystal and Cardinals’ star wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald for their humanitarian efforts.
The Foundation will be presenting them with Caring Awards at the Summer Sounds Annual Benefit on July 20.
Crystal has been a major advocate and supporter of Starkey Hearing Foundation for more than a decade. The Foundation is committed to
giving the gift of hearing to those in need, empowering them to achieve their potential, and to making hearing healthcare services more accessible for thousands of people each year who would not otherwise get that care.
Crystal and his family recently traveled with the Foundation to Peru where they helped fit 1,200 patients with hearing aids. “I fit a woman with hearing aids who was 19 years old. She lost her hearing at nine days old to meningitis,” said Crystal during an appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. “For the first time in her life, she was hearing sound, and it was my voice. She looked up at me and started
crying, and then her baby cried and she heard her baby for the first time. It was life-changing.”
“Billy is as passionate about giving the gift of hearing as we are,” said Starkey Hearing Foundation President and Board Chair Richard Brown. “Building relationships with incredible supporters like him allows us to serve so many more people around the world. We are grateful for Billy’s friendship and his personal dedication to helping us change the world through the gift of hearing.”
Fitzgerald has been a major advocate and supporter of Starkey Hearing Foundation since meeting co-founders Bill and Tani Austin almost a decade ago. The Foundation is committed to giving the gift of hearing to those in need, empowering them to achieve their potential, and to making hearing healthcare services more accessible for thousands of people each year who would not otherwise get that care. Fitzgerald has been on more than 15 missions all over the world where he has helped to fit patients with hearing aids, helping many of them hear the voices of their family members for the first time.
“Larry has been an incredible supporter of our work for years,” said Starkey Hearing Foundation President and Board Chair Richard Brown. “It is because of dedicated sponsors and volunteers like him that we are able to bring the gift of hearing to so many more people around the world. We are so thankful for Larry’s tireless commitment to serve others and help change the world.”
