Celebrity ambassador Ty Burrell (Modern Family) will host The annual screening and awards show, “Movies by Kids” on behalf of Kids in the Spotlight on Saturday, November 3 at Fox Studios.

Founded in May 2009, Kids in the Spotlight trains youth in foster care programs and other underserved youth to create, write, cast and star in their own short films. This training culminates in an annual film festival competition, “Movies by Kids,” allowing kids to express themselves through the art of filmmaking and encouraging interest in careers in the film industry. “Movies by Kids” will feature eight (8) short films created by foster youth between the ages of 11 and 24. The screenplays written by the participating youth are registered with the Writers Guild of America, West (WGAW), which issues each student a certificate for their registered script.

The organization thanks celebrity ambassadors, including Cady McClain (All My Children, As the World Turns), Alphonso McAuley (Love that Girl) and Robert Munic (Co-Executive Producer and Writer, Empire & Co-Executive Producer, Star) for volunteering their time to guide the students in their filmmaking. This year, confirmed guests to attend “Movies by Kids” include additional celebrity volunteers who help the young filmmakers – R&B legend, Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind, and Fire, whose foundation MUSIC is Unity is the title sponsor; Kenny Lattimore; Aliyah Moulden, Finalist on NBC’s The Voice (also appears in one of the KITS films) and Dawnn Lewis, actress-singer-humanitarian (A Different World). Additionally, award presenters include Eion Bailey (actor-director, ABC’s Once Upon a Time); Kylee Russell (Disney’s Z.O.M.B.I.E.S.); Jadah Marie (Mann and Wife).

This program is offered completely free-of-charge to the kids who participate. Kids in the Spotlight shoots up to 10 short films per year at an estimated cost of $10,000 each, relying solely on sponsors, grants and tax-deductible donations for both the operating and production budget of the program. It is the hope of Kids in the Spotlight that you will be compelled to support this great organization with both financial and in-kind contributions. “Your contribution empowers us to empower our kids.”
