Actress Kaira Akita celebrated the launch of her latest business venture and helped two worthy charities last week.

A Clothes Encounter (ACE), an upscale consignment party concept, celebrated their launch by hosting a fashion exchange party at Like the River Salon in Atlanta. The event included Nuvo Vodka cocktails, desserts provided by Affairs to Remember and music by DJ Sugarcut.

ACE shoppers were amazed at the transformation that the venue, Like The River, went through to accommodate the first of its kind event. Curious to see what the end result would be and how much of a savings the fashionistas would uncover, intrigued buyers began lining up outside the salon nearly an hour before the doors opened. Like The River, filled wall to wall with merchandise, vaguely resembled a full-service hair salon by the time the doors opened. Merchandise included coats, jackets, blazers, stilettos, purses, furs, sweaters, dresses, skirts, accessories, and special handbags by Champagne Taste. Labels included but weren’t limited to Banana Republic, Arden B, BCBG, Bebe, Express, Limited, Liz Claiborne and Anne Klein, Seven Jeans, and Armani Exchange. At the beginning of the 4 hour event, all items were discounted 40% to 75% off retail, with most items priced under $20. However, by the last half hour, items were reduced an additional 20% off, causing a frenzy for most including Kesha Henderson. “I was like a kid on Christmas…too excited,” she admitted.

Actress Kaira Akita – best known for her character, Diva, in BET’s “Somebodies” – is the Founder of A Clothes Encounter and the Creator of the ACE concept, which will occur once a season at different Atlanta hotspots. “I was so thrilled with the turnout and support that we received. It was truly amazing to witness guests fully engaged in our concept as they shopped, socialized, and most importantly, supported our two wonderful charity partners, Dress For Success Atlanta and P.A.L.S. (Pets Are Loving Support),” stated Akita.

The success of ACE’s first event has shopaholics eagerly awaiting the next one, which according to Akita, will occur in the spring 2009. “I must say my favorite aspect of the evening was seeing the surprise on their faces (ACE shoppers) as they encountered our low ACE prices and high quality selection! What fun. I can’t wait to begin planning for our spring event,” Akita shared. This was echoed by Sondra Brown, “I really enjoyed the ACE event..and got some fabulous items. I am looking forward to the next event!” Rhonda Glaze was completely won over by the concept, “I enjoyed everything…I love fashion and like to look my best so I’m constantly looking for opportunities to buy the best at the lowest price. I wore one of the items that I purchased to church on Sunday and received so many compliments. It was truly an awesome event and I look forward to many more.”
