Irish actor Evanna Lynch may only play Luna Lovegood in the Harry Potter film series, but she’s a real-life wizard in the kitchen. That’s why she teamed up with peta2, PETA US’ youth division, for a new cooking tutorial that reveals how to veganise some of her favourite Hogwarts recipes.

First, Lynch shows how to make Chocolate Frogs – “Dairy-free and frog-free”, she says, “and chocolate has healing powers” – followed by decadent vegan Butterybeer, noting, “[M]aking it at home will save you a sickle”. Finally, she shares a super-easy recipe for Pumpkin Pasties.

“Whether it’s owls, rats, or hippogriffs”, she concludes, “be a hero for animals by going vegan today”.

PETA – whose motto reads, in part, that “animals are not ours to eat” – notes that each person who goes vegan spares many animals every year a terrifying and painful death that makes the Cruciatus Curse look like a tickling charm. In addition, vegans are less prone to suffering from heart disease, diabetes, cancer, and obesity than meat-eaters are, and they have a dramatically smaller carbon footprint.

Lynch, whose Twitter bio proudly proclaims, “vegan activist”, recently starred in the critically acclaimed film My Name Is Emily.
