Last week, Forbes awarded its Forbes 400 Lifetime Achievement Award for Philanthropy to United Nations Foundation Founder and Chairman Ted Turner in recognition of his unprecedented philanthropy and his dedication to building a better world.

On behalf of the UN Foundation, President and CEO Kathy Calvin congratulated Turner and highlighted the legacy of his work:

“We congratulate Ted on receiving the prestigious Forbes 400 Lifetime Achievement Award for Philanthropy. His historic $1 billion dollar gift to support United Nations causes sparked a new wave in global philanthropy, and blazed the trail for many other organizations and people who were inspired by his gift to join in support of the United Nations.

Ted’s gift has inspired tens of thousands of individuals, organizations, and companies to support the UN’s work on girls’ and women’s empowerment, energy and climate, and global health. To date, hundreds of partners and nearly 300,000 donors have supported Ted’s bold vision — doubling his investment and boosting its impact for years to come."

As the world rallies with the UN to begin implementing the Sustainable Development Goals, Turner serves as a reminder that we each have a role and responsibility to rise to the challenges of our time and build a better world.
