Ahead of today’s fifth anniversary of the Syria conflict, the International Rescue Committee organized a meeting between George and Amal Clooney and three Syrian refugee families living in Berlin.
The families shared with the Clooneys the terror of fleeing war-ravaged Syria, and their hopes for a better future.
“It was an honor to meet three Syrian families whose lives have been shattered by war and inspiring to learn that the people of Germany are helping them put their lives back together,” said George Clooney.
“As peace talks hang in the balance, the stories of these families should drive not just humanitarian help, but renewed determination to bring the Syrian war to an end,” added David Miliband, president and CEO of the International Rescue Committee.
The International Rescue Committee, founded by Albert Einstein, has been delivering life-saving aid to millions affected by a war that has been raging in Syria for five grueling years. The IRC is the only international charity working inside Syria; with refugees in the neighboring countries and in Europe; and resettling refugees here into the United States.
Worldwide, a record 60 million people are displaced from their homes. You can find out how to support the International Rescue Committee’s work with refugees, as well as information on how you can volunteer right here in the United States, at www.rescue.org.
