You can own just about anything these days – stars, planets, galaxies… and now your very own word in the English language.

Children’s charity I CAN is offering people the chance to adopt their favorite word for a whole year in the name of charity. For just £20 (US$32) adopters can do whatever they want to do with their chosen word… take it shopping, maybe. Or to the gym. Or just give it a loving home. They will also receive a gift pack including a certificate and an aftercare advice booklet.

Some of Britain’s favorite stars have already adopted their own favorite words through the initiative – Melanie C has chosen “red” and Kim Wilde has gone for “flower”.

“Flower is an anagram of my married name, Fowler,” says Wilde, “and, of course, my daughter is called Rose – a flower is one of nature’s best performances!”

I CAN is a British children’s communication charity that fosters the development of speech, language and communication skills in all children – with a special focus on those who find it hard. More information about adopting a word can be found at the I CAN website.
