The British Academy of Film and Television Arts Los Angeles (BAFTA Los Angeles) is pleased to announce it will honor award-winning actor and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Orlando Bloom with the Britannia Humanitarian Award presented by the Beazley Group.

The award will be presented at the 2015 Jaguar Land Rover British Academy Britannia Awards Presented by American Airlines on Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

“At BAFTA Los Angeles, we recognize that our industry’s power to raise social awareness and push for change is enormous. Orlando Bloom’s incredible work with UNICEF and many other charities demonstrates that immense power, and he has consistently gone above and beyond as an active, engaged campaigner for real solutions to urgent global issues,” stated BAFTA Los Angeles Chairman, Kieran Breen. “We are delighted to honor Orlando with this award and to draw a spotlight on the issues he cares about most.”

The Britannia Humanitarian Award is presented to a colleague who has used the art form of the moving image or their position in the entertainment industry to create positive social change, and actively shine a light on important humanitarian issues. The award has previously recognized Idris Elba, Richard Curtis, Don Cheadle, Colin Firth and Mark Ruffalo. Bloom has used his voice for years to highlight great causes, including We Day, Children's Defense Fund and Global Green. One of Bloom’s passionate initiatives has been his partnership with UNICEF, the human rights non-profit, which focuses efforts on children in underdeveloped parts of the world. Bloom has been a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador since 2009, visiting countries like Nepal, Liberia, and Russia to aid in UNICEF’s efforts, which include everything from education, to clean water acts, and battling Ebola.

As previously announced, Meryl Streep will receive this year’s Stanley Kubrick Britannia Award for Excellence in Film, Sam Mendes will receive the John Schlesinger Britannia Award for Excellence in Directing presented by The GREAT Britain Campaign, James Corden will receive the Britannia Award for British Artist of the Year presented by Burberry and Amy Schumer will receive the Charlie Chaplin Britannia Award for Excellence in Comedy presented by Kodak. World-renowned television and event production company Done + Dusted will produce this year’s ceremony. British automotive company Jaguar Land Rover are this year’s title sponsor of the event, and American Airlines the presenting sponsor.

“We applaud Orlando’s passionate commitment to the rights of young people around the world,” commented Event Co-Chairs, Deborah Kolar and Adam Bialow.

The British Academy Britannia Awards evening is BAFTA’s big night out in Hollywood, where Brits and anglophiles alike come together to take over Los Angeles for an evening to honor individuals who have dedicated their careers to advancing the art forms of the moving image in the US, UK and beyond. This cross-cultural collaboration allows the BAFTA community to shine a spotlight on the Hollywood industry while hosting an evening of fun and British irreverence. The awards are BAFTA Los Angeles’ highest accolades, and a celebration of achievements honoring individuals and companies that have dedicated their careers to advancing the entertainment arts. The evening recognizes outstanding British talent or exceptional American talent by virtue of their strong connection to the British industry through their body of work, and celebrate the long-standing collaboration between the British and American industries.

The annual ceremony will take place Friday, October 30, 2015 at the Beverly Hilton Hotel. Additional honorees will be announced at a later date. The British Academy Britannia Awards is a key event in the awards season, which continues with the BAFTA Tea Party in Los Angeles on January 9, 2016 and culminates with the EE British Academy Film Awards in London on Sunday, February 14, 2016.

Proceeds from the gala ceremony support BAFTA Los Angeles’ on-going education, scholarship, community outreach and archival projects.
