The show that made country music famous is scheduled to salute the U.S. military with a red carpet arrival parade and special Opry performance Tuesday, May 19.
The MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band will make its second appearance on the Opry as part of the evening’s events along with performances by Trace Adkins, Vince Gill, Lee Greenwood, Craig Morgan, and Kellie Pickler, among others. The show is one part of the Opry’s month-long celebration of our nation’s troops and their families, which helps benefit the USO and MusiCorps.
The public is invited to be a part of the celebration outside the Opry House beginning at 5:45 p.m. as members of the MusiCorps Wounded Warrior Band and other honored soldiers enter the Opry House via a fan-lined red carpet parade. The evening’s Opry performance begins at 7:00 p.m.
As part of the show’s 90th anniversary celebration, the Opry is celebrating country’s heart throughout the year, bringing its biggest stars and loyal fans together to support nine important causes over the course of nine months. Called “Cause For Applause,” the initiative will continue with “Salute The Troops” as May’s cause benefitting MusicCorps and the USO. Throughout the month, a percentage of the proceeds from Opry ticket sales will go to the cause when fans mention the code “SALUTE.” Among other artists scheduled to appear on the Opry and Opry Country Classics throughout the month and who are also USO tour veterans are Brett Eldredge, Charlie Daniels Band, Larry Gatlin & The Gatlin Brothers, Hunter Hayes, Oak Ridge Boys, Rascal Flatts, and Aaron Tippin.
In celebration of the cause, the Opry has also unveiled a new “Salute The Troops” tee collection from the Selma Drye by Kellie Pickler line, the Opry’s first artist-curated collection. A percentage of the sales from the collection will also be donated to the cause. Pickler is scheduled to sign autographs in The Opry Shop following the show May 19. A tee purchase and voucher are required for the signing; full details are available here.
