This Thanksgiving, Portia de Rossi is on a mission to change the way you think about turkeys.

Farm Sanctuary, America’s leading farm animal rescue and protection organization, has announced that de Rossi is the official 2015 spokesperson for their annual Adopt a Turkey Project, which encourages people to help turkeys at Thanksgiving by “adopting” one of the rescued birds who live at their sanctuaries in New York and California.

For a one-time $30 donation, people can help provide care for a turkey, as well as educate the public about these emotionally complex birds and protect them from the callousness of industrial farming. Sponsors receive a certificate with a color photo and fun details about their new friend.

Says de Rossi, “I’m excited to be adopting a turkey for Farm Sanctuary. Contrary to what most people believe, turkeys are just as smart, loving, and full of feeling as my dogs. I’m happy to join people who want to make a positive difference for these animals. Making a one-time donation to sponsor a rescued turkey is a fun and easy way to help.”

Farm Sanctuary operates three shelters in New York and California that provide lifelong care for nearly 1,000 rescued farm animals, works to change laws to decrease abuse of farm animals, and promotes compassionate vegan living.
