There weren’t that many tickets to begin with – but now, just a few dozen remain for an exclusive meet-and-greet with Grammy Award-winning musician Macklemore.
The Seattle native will host a charity fundraising event prior to Runway to Freedom V, a fashion show that benefits victims of domestic violence.
“Macklemore has been a long-time supporter of Runway to Freedom,” said show founder, Lauren Grinnell. “We’re happy to have him here for a lot of reasons, but for me, personally, it means a lot since I’m a survivor of domestic violence,” she said.
The runway and music show will begin at 8pm at The Showbox at 1426 1st Ave, Seattle, WA 98101.
Although Macklemore will not be part of the musician lineup, a number of live bands will perform, including Jairemie Alexander, Ayron Jones and The Way, Otieno Terry, Luc and the Lovingtons, Alana Belle and Katie Kate. The fashion show will feature seven designers showcasing styles from gowns to urban street wear. The auction will feature a variety of items to bid on, including a trip to Paris.
Each year, Runway to Freedom chooses a different benefactor. This year it’s Mary’s Place, a homeless shelter in Seattle that serves battered women and their children who simply have no where else to go.
“I’m glad to know people are finally talking about domestic violence, but we need to remember, this is not a new problem,” said Grinnell, a stylist and business owner by trade. Numbers from the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence show an estimated 1.3 million women are victims of physical assault each year. Grinnell’s mission is to aid women who find themselves in these kinds of abusive relationships.
There will be ways to donate to the cause outside of the event. Grinnell has items she’s putting together for an opportunity drawing, including items signed by Macklemore and stars of the Seattle Seahawks football team. More information on the drawing and specific items available at the on-site auction will be released shortly.
General admission tickets start at $75 and the special VIP reception tickets with Macklemore are $250. Both can be purchased on Runway to Freedom’s website.
Runway to Freedom is an annual charity fashion show and auction with benefits going to charities that support domestic violence victims. The event, founded by Lauren Grinnell, is in its fifth year. Grinnell is a stylist and owns her own business, Lalascuts, located on 4th Avenue West in Seattle.
