Lisa LaFlamme, Chief Anchor and Senior Editor CTV News and Masai Ujiri, President and General Manager, Toronto Raptors Basketball, will co-chair the annual Journalists for Human Rights Night for Rights Gala on September 25, 2014.
The event will bring together 300 of Canada’s top journalists, media executives, business, and political leaders at the Arcadian Court in Toronto to recognize journalists from Liberia, Tanzania, the Middle East and Northern Ontario, and celebrate the powerful social and development impact of their journalism.
“Having worked with JHR staff in Africa and seeing their accomplishments up close, it is a particular pleasure for me to co-chair this gala with Masai,” said LaFlammme. “All the journalists I met with JHR in the D.R. Congo were inspiring and courageous. It is an honour to support them at Night for Rights and help JHR continue to advance the craft of journalism and create positive outcomes for decency, and democracy.”
“I was energized to learn of JHR’s work and am proud to be able to support them in some small way as they help protect human rights around the world,” said Ujiri. “I am all too familiar with the fact that many journalists are not able to work with the same freedoms we enjoy in Canada and commend JHR for coming together to help create change.”
