The Sierra Club Foundation and actor Ian Somerhalder announced they are joining forces to compete for a $75,000 prize in a CrowdRise Challenge called #STARTARYOT, a five-week online fundraising initiative to raise charitable funds that launched last week.

“I’m out to win the top prize for The Sierra Club Foundation,” says Somerhalder on his #STARTARYOT fundraising page that can be accessed here. "An organization that’s very special to me — whose powerful work in every community around the country inspired me to join the environmental movement and start a foundation of my own.

“We are thrilled to partner with Ian Somerhalder on this fundraising initiative,” said Peter Martin, Executive Director of The Sierra Club Foundation. “Ian is an influential young actor who is deeply passionate about our issues. He is a powerful role model for the next generation of environmental activists.”

RYOT, a new social news platform, and leading fundraising site, CrowdRise, announced the launch of the challenge last week. RYOT and CrowdRise are inviting non-profits and the public to join the five-week fundraising initiative to raise money. Through September 24th, RYOT will give $200,000 in donations to non-profits and donors the opportunity to win 10 VIP, on-stage tickets to the 2013 Global Citizen Festival – a free ticketed concert on the Great Lawn of Central Park, NYC.

This week’s bonus challenge is to get 25 unique donors, which will enter Ian/Sierra Club Foundation to win an additional $10,000.
