Following the success of the 6th edition of the New York Steve Nash Foundation Showdown in June, Swiss luxury watchmaker Girard-Perregaux was happy during the weekend to support the first-ever Showdown in Los Angeles; the popular charity soccer match held by two-time NBA MVP Steve Nash.

Similar to its New York sister event, the pick-up style soccer match featured NBA and professional soccer players who joined forces to support the Steve Nash Foundation’s work to benefit underserved children. In addition to Steve Nash, the match included players including Jared Dudley (Los Angeles Clippers), Jeremy Lin (Houston Rockets), Martín Zuñega and Carlos Bocanegra (Chivas MLS), Robbie Rogers and Carlo Cudicini (Los Angeles Galaxy), Brian McBride (former Columbus Crew player), Jovan Kirovski (assistant coach Los Angeles Galaxy), Klay Thompson (Golden State Warriors), and former soccer players Brian Dunseth, Kyle Martino, John O’Brien, Claudio Suarez and Simone Sandri.

The soccer match kicked off at 6:30 pm at the Red Shield Community Center in downtown Los Angeles, where fans filled the field, bleachers and crowded the entrance to see their favorite players. Before the game began, Girard-Perregaux awarded Robbie Rogers for being a role model for young athletes around the world. In addition, Carlo Cudicini was awarded as the game’s Most Valuable Player. Both players received a timepiece from the new Hawk Sports collection, the Girard-Perregaux Chrono Hawk. The Hawk collection has managed to establish its own identity while remaining true to Girard-Perregaux’s Manufacturing spirit.

After the match, Nash, fellow players, friends and fans gathered for Showdown After Hours, an invite-only cocktail party and live auction held at LA Live’s Target Terrace, where 100% of proceeds went to benefit the Foundation’s direct services to children around the world.

This sponsorship highlights Girard-Perregaux’s continued commitment to the world of sports and charity alike. Past honors to Steve Nash from Girard-Perregaux include a 1966 Full Calendar for his charitable work through his namesake foundation.
