One Direction have revealed that they’ll be supporting Stand Up To Cancer through ticket sales of their UK and Ireland dates to raise funds for vital research into cancer.
Last year, Channel 4 and Cancer Research UK joined forces to launch Stand Up To Cancer in the UK to help accelerate ground-breaking cancer research. The final fundraising total exceeded £8m, but there is still much more to be done to help bring more effective treatments to patients sooner.
Harry, Zayn, Liam, Niall and Louis have all pledged their support and will be donating 50p from every ticket sold for their UK and Ireland tour.
Liam Payne said: “We’re so proud to be supporting Stand Up To Cancer while touring the UK and Ireland. Cancer affects nearly everyone at some point in their lives so we all need to do what we can to bring forward the day when all cancers are cured. Stand Up To Cancer is all about bringing people together as a collective force and we hope our fans will get involved too. We’d love for One Direction fans to tell us about their support by using the hashtag #1DStandUp.”
Claire Rowney, director of Stand Up To Cancer, said: “We’re over the moon that One Direction have chosen to support Stand Up To Cancer. The money raised will help fund groundbreaking research specifically designed to have an impact within just a few years, bringing new and kinder treatments to patients sooner. We want to thank them and their fans for their support .”
