The Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians provides disadvantaged children with a musical instrument, weekly lessons, membership of a local music group and the chance to perform with London’s top professional musicians.
The Mayor of London’s Fund for Young Musicians is an independent charity, established in 2011, with the Mayor as Founder Patron.
The Fund works with every London music service to provide progression and development opportunities to children and young people who demonstrate musical potential and commitment to learning an instrument. It does this through two programmes:
Scholarships: The Fund awards four-year scholarships to primary school age children who are identified by their school and music service as having potential but whose families struggle to pay for their on-going lessons once free first-access lessons cease.
Partnerships: One-year grants for partnerships that have identified a gap in provision and bring together two or more music services and London’s top professional arts organisations and academies to give thousands of 7-18 year old musicians the opportunity to develop their music-making.
