Born and bred in Wellington, New Zealand, Peter Jackson is now one of the most influencial people in Hollywood, thanks to his masterpiece trilogy, The Lord Of The Rings.
Jackson is well known in Wellington for saving old and historical buildings from demolition, including a church he paid $10 million dollars to save.
But it is his humanity that speaks louder than his movies. Jackson is a great supporter of young New Zealand film makers, and this was witnessed in his friendship with Cameron Duncan. Duncan was a talented teenage film maker spotted by Jackson, who helped him develop two short films. However, Duncan also suffered from cancer, which took his life in 2003. Jackson has been a supporter of cancer causes ever since, and has donated $500,000 to stem cell research into a cure.
